Overwhelmed? How to reach out for help, and schedule recovery time.

How Do You Feel?

Are you feeling overwhelmed?

What do you do when you are overwhelmed?

I have come to realize that I am a creative person with lots of ideas and interests that can lead me easily into the overwhelmed state.

Recently I’ve been juggling multiple projects including the creation of an Integrative barefoot movement program, the Embrace Wellness Project, and now a partnership and training with Debbie Rosas the co-creator of the Nia technique in the development and expansion of a Moving To Heal Nia program.

In addition, I have clients to see and classes to teach. This year I have moved to a new dance space. These are all good things, wonderful things, I am passionate about them all, and sometimes they even spill into each other.

At home I have an amazing husband, a 5 year old daughter and a 9 year old son.  Every year I make movies for my children’s birthdays, which means one in December and one in February. These videos are amazing keepsakes, the children love them, but they are a lot of work to make.

With work, a video to make, and the holiday season upon us, it’s been a busy month. I’ve struggled to find the balance and to take moments to pause and enjoy the moments fully. I knew a vacation was much needed but there was so much pressure to get everything done.

But why was there so much pressure?

Where Does Pressure Come From?

When I thought about this, I realized that much of it was self-generated – I put all of this pressure upon myself, I want and need to have everything done, I expect this of myself.

I learned that I really needed to prioritize and start letting go of not getting everything done before going on vacation. Having Jennifer S. Kennett to talk through the priorities with has been critical.  Jennifer knows that sometimes we have to remind ourselves to breathe, and she encouraged me to be okay with changing deadlines and not having everything done immediately.

Releasing The Pressure, Taking A Break.

Today I am in Maui, enjoying our family vacation, and I am looking forward to having time to decompress with my family. I am planning to enjoy the calming energy of this island.

Today I journal my thoughts for you so you know you are not alone in this journey of life.

That we all struggle.

That we all need support.

I hope that you can reach out to others for the support you need. I encourage you to check in with our Embrace Wellness group on Facebook,  where you will find help on how to prioritize and determine what is really important so that you can live a happy and full life that includes time to rest and enjoy the journey. If you need to, find a friend you can call when times are tough.

While it is true that we don’t always have the option to take a vacation, we do all have the option to take a break.  Meet a friend for a walk in the park, or a lunch date.  Take the dog to the beach or the forest.  Lie on the couch and read a book.  Go to a coffee shop, alone, and sit quietly by the fire with your favorite puzzle book.  Put on some music and dance.  Declare that today dinner is going to be take out.  Shift one deadline to after the holidays. Take the pressure off a little bit – you’ll be amazed how much better you feel.

My holiday wish for you is that you may have time to pause and reflect and maybe share your experiences with us, we can all help each other if we share what helped us to feel better.

Mahalo.
